Ce matin au sanctuaire Shintô Yasaka Jinja se déroulait une cérémonie un peu particulière dénommée Miyabi-kai みやび会 et spécialement adressée aux Maiko et Geiko du quartier de Gion Kobu 祇園甲部.
This morning at Yasaka Jinja Shrine, a special ceremony was held, named Miyabi-kai, especially addressed to the Maiko and Geiko from the Gion Kobu district.
Cette cérémonie fait partie du festival de Gion – ou Gion Matsuri 祇園祭, qui se déroule chaque année du 1er au 30 Juillet – et consiste en une bénédiction faite au sanctuaire ainsi qu’une prière.
Les Maiko et Geiko du quartier sont particulièrement attachées à ce rituel qui leur assure protection, chance et succès dans l’accomplissement de leur art, notamment la danse.
This ceremony is actually part of the Gion Festival – or Gion Matsuri, happening every year for a month from July 1 – and consists of a benediction and a prayer performed at the shrine. The Maiko and Geiko are particularly attached to this ritual which assures them protection, luck and success in their art, more particularly dance.

Top discipline in the Geiko world, dance is taught by the heirs of the Inoue school, from which Yachiyo IV (Inoue Aiko, 1905-2004), designated living national treasure in 1955, is the most famous.
En cette saison estivale, toutes portent un Yukata (kimono en coton très fin, non doublé) aux couleurs traditionnelles, le contraste entre le bleu et le blanc et la taille des motifs créant une impression de fraîcheur. Les motifs sont eux aussi en raccord avec la saison : cette année ce sont des gourdes / calebasses que l’on appelle par ici des Hyoutan 瓢箪.
Les Obi sont eux aussi dans une matière fine, souvent un tissage assez souple de lin ou de chanvre. La gamme de couleur doit cependant trancher avec le Yukata et faire notamment un rappel avec les accessoires comme les sandales et les épingles à cheveux.
Since this is summer, all of them are wearing a Yukata (very thin un-layered cotton kimono) coming in the classic color code, the contrast between blue and white and the size of the motifs giving a refreshing impression. The motifs are of course reflecting the season : it is a special kind of gourd called in Japanese Hyoutan.
The Obi sashes are too made in a very thin fabric, often a rather soft mix of woven hemp. The color must be though quite solid and vivid to make a nice contrast with the Yukata but also make a connection with the different accessories such as the Zori sandals and the hairpins.
La chaleur et l’humidité ambiante donnent des envies de parfait au thé vert et autres douceurs rafraîchissantes comme les fameux Kakigôri (coupe de glace pilée aromatisée au sirop de fruit) (voir photo ci-dessus >^-^<)
The heat and humidity makes the Green tea parfait and other refreshing sweets like Kakigôri (shaved ice served with fruit syrup) look even more delicious ! (see picture above >^-^<)
